Season Started at Willow Springs with New Personal-Bests

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif., March 14, 2016

Known since its 1953 founding as “The Fastest Road in the West” Willow Springs International Raceway proved its nature opening weekend for Robert Davis Racing (RDR). Two team members had career-best finishes in the ultra-competitive Spec Miata Class, with Jeff Jeppeson earning his first podium Saturday, and rookie Shaun Felix-Tuu earning his first podium Sunday.

Also known for its challenging weather conditions, Willow Springs didn’t disappoint there either, as heavy rain and strong winds got the racing off to an interesting start for Friday night’s three-hour endurance race. Team leader Robert Davis decided to ironman the event in his Mazda RX-8,electing to start the event with a wet set up.

Starting 10th overall Davis said, the Hoosier wet tires were just amazing. During the rain, we ran up to fifth place overall. Even with a drying track, the Hoosier rain tires were amazing. But even amazing
rain tires can’t survive an hour of dry track at Willow Springs, where the left front takes a beating, so a change to the trusted Hoosier R7 was needed.

Able to run down the class leader on the new tires, the come-back effort was cut short by an extra stop for fuel with 10 minutes to go in the race. Team member Josh Allan, made the successful switch from Performance Touring D (PTD) to Performance Touring C (PTC), at the same time Dennis Holloway’s debut in PTD was limited by ABS issues. Dennis is confident to be back in PTC to give Josh a run of his Money.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif., April 19, 2016

Robert Davis Racing (RDR) had an
uncharacteristically low-key and cool weekend at Buttonwillow Raceway, generally known for
its boiling-high temperatures..

With the team split between official and unofficial duties at the Long Beach Grand Prix, the team fielded an also-uncharacteristic two racers this weekend.  That said, Robert Davis and Lee Papageorge showed up ready to race in their Performance Touring D (PTD) Mazda RX-8s, with their on-track performance making up for the lack of team-mates.

Papageorge continued his undefeated season on Saturday with a win, as Davis sealed the third consecutive 1-2 for the team. Sunday was a little tougher, with Davis finishing third and Papageorge crossing the line in fourth. Papageorge continues to lead the regional PTD driver’s points, with Davis right behind him in second.

RDR wishes to congratulate SpeedSource on their best-ever IMSA Prototype finish at Long
Beach that same weekend, and thank them for their continued partnership. As the Prototypes
head to Mazda Raceway next weekend, RDR is hoping they’ll leave some good luck behind,
as RDR’s next stop is Mazda’s home-away-from-home, too.
